The Marcus
Chappell Memorial Rally
24
September 2011
Marcus Chappell was a
member of the Ottawa Jaguar Club
and a long time successful
National and International car
rallyist. He passed away in the
Spring of 2010 before he had the
chance to conduct a rally that
he had prepared for the Ottawa
Jaguar Club.
A group of individuals
from the six Ottawa car clubs
(listed below) spent the fall of
2010 and Spring and Summer of
2011 tailoring the rally to meet
the availability of all the
club's members. In addition
several friends of Marc and
Sheila Chappell volunteered to
assist. During the preparation
of the rally the Lanark and North Leeds
Amateur Radio Emergency
Service members based
in Eastern Ontario but focussed
on Perth agreed to provide radio
communications for each of the
check points and the control
station at the end of the rally.
The weather was grey and
overcast and there was "scotch
mist" in the Lanark highlands.
18 cars appeared to run in the
Rally from the following Ottawa
based clubs : Jaguar 7, BMW 3,
Mercedez Benz 3, MG 3, Triumph 1
and Mini 1.
The results are listed
below. It must be emphasized
that the 60 or so people that
ran in the rally or participated
as organizers were unanimous in
their praise for a wonderful
event that brought everyone
together in a fun and very
different event.
While there were many volunteers
wiyhout whom this event could
not have occurred it should be
noted that Guy Goodman,
a close friend of Marcus
Chappell, spent over 100 hours
making sure that every detail
was in place so that the day
would be a success.
I have
only 4 things to tell you before I
tell you how poorly you have done
